Pet Surrender Information

If you need help with your pet, or are looking to surrender a pet, please fill out our Request For Assistance form here . A staff member will contact you to discuss your options, resources, and next steps.

PLEASE NOTE: The shelter is FULL, and all animals are at a high risk of euthanasia, particularly dogs. We average 20 dogs entering the shelter daily and even dogs who are healthy and don’t have behavioral concerns don’t always find a home or rescue.

We encourage you to first try rehoming through friends, family, and neighbors, and then try the resources below. Posting your pet’s photo and information on the below websites can help you reach interested adopters directly! This prevents your pet from ever entering the shelter system, while offering owners the peace of mind that their pet is with a new family of their choosing. Some places to start include:

CONNECT WITH A RESCUE:

Rescues are independent organizations dedicated to helping pets in need. Animal rescues may have physical shelter locations, or may be foster-based (meaning all pets are placed in the care of volunteer foster parents). Some rescue organizations will specialize in a specific breed, while others may be open to a wide range of breeds and species.

We recommend you begin by filling out CNKP’s Connect with a Rescue form , which will share your pet’s information with a number of local animal rescue organizations. If you adopted your pet from a rescue or shelter, please contact that organization to inquire about a return. The majority of rescues/shelters will accommodate returns of their adopted pets.

LOW COST VETERINARY CARE:

ACCT Philly does not offer veterinary services to the public. For affordable vet care, we recommend reaching out to one of the below hospitals and clinics.

If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency and you are looking for veterinary care, please contact your local animal hospital or veterinary emergency room.

If you’re looking into humane euthanasia for an ill and/or elderly pet, please come in to the shelter, no appointment needed. If you’d like to be with your pet in their last moments, please reach out to Emeka’s Fund, https://www.emekasfund.org/ , or your local veterinarian.
